Compare the Muse Ballpoint Pen Pack and the Muse Rollerball Pen to find the right clipboard pack for your writing style and budget.
Quick answer
Choose the Muse Ballpoint Pen Pack for everyday affordability and color variety, or the Muse Rollerball Pen for a premium, refillable writing experience with a smoother ink flow.
Ink type and writing feel
Ballpoint pens use oil-based ink that dries quickly and works on most papers, making them a reliable choice for quick notes and forms. Rollerball pens use water-based ink that flows more freely, giving a smoother, more fluid writing experience but requiring a bit more care to avoid smudging.
Cost and refillability
The Muse Ballpoint Pen Pack offers three pens for a lower upfront cost, making it easy to keep one at your desk, in your bag, and at home. However, these pens are not refillable. The Muse Rollerball Pen costs more initially but is refillable, which can reduce long-term waste and expense if you write heavily.
Tradeoffs at a glance
- Cost per use: Ballpoint Pen Pack gives you three pens for a lower price, but they are not refillable. Rollerball costs more upfront but can be refilled, lowering cost per use over time.
- Ink performance: Ballpoint ink dries fast and is smear-resistant. Rollerball ink flows smoother but may take a moment to dry.
- Portability and storage: The pen pack's slim, 6.1-inch pens fit easily in a clipboard pocket. The rollerball's metal body is slightly larger at 7.2 inches but still fits standard clipboard loops. Check your clipboard's pen loop size if you prefer the rollerball.
